On Security Now this week, Steve Gibson spoke of this one time password generating device that might be called the smallest keyboard in the world. It looks like it's a great solution for multi-factor authentication.

There is a great post over at It's a Matter of Opinion noting that Bob Brown's support for the Dalai Lama is not necessarily sensible or consistent. Go read!

Here we have a really nice and simple interview with Bob Carter about the whole CAGW™ thing:

If this causes your bandwidth limit to go over, Jack, I will pay for the extra. Well worth the watch!

Back in 1961 (the same year our old blue trains were built IIRC) Ronald Reagan recorded a speech about socialized medicine which is worth a listen. Read about it here; listen to it right here at TramTown:

Also, look at this paste up of Reagan gags, many of them very good:

The Intergovernmental Panel for Continental Drift has something to say about Catastrophic Anthropogenic Continental Drift™ here.
On the other hand, the Intragovernmental Panel for Yellowstone Volcanoes' report reads more like a parable.

You don't often get to see a decent Steve Jobs impersonator, do you?

I may have pointed at this before but I don't care, it is one of the funniest sketches I have ever seen.

I'm a big fan of the Wikipedia; I believe it to be an extraordinarily useful tool. However, I'm very cautious when it comes to articles on hot topics and individuals. Lawrence Solomon shows why this is a wise policy here.
One way of checking for an article's likely veracity is to look at the quality of debate in its history and talk sections.

In this post on the Rogues' Gallery, Steven Novella make a pretty good fist of explaining the relationship between logical fallacies and cognitive dissonance. Well worth the read.

Here is a story about a 48-year-old with the name Bissett and two other protagonists living in a region previously occupied by a cherry orchard. Were Chekhov alive today, I'm sure he would find this to be fine grist for his dramaturgical mill.
Thanks go to Tim Blair for the pointer.

Over at Neptunus Lex, Jay Rockefeller, senator from West Virginia, gets a nice slap down for uninformed remarks about John McCain's service record. Rockefeller was right in everything but most of the important details. A nice little read.

One week on from AFD we have an article with a lovely title on the Murdoch web: Climate change serious - beer affected. I don't have to tell readers of TramTown what I think of these dodgy conference attendees but, given that these goons are predicting what they think might be the case in 2100, I would expect them to be asked how much respect they would give to predictions of scientists from, say, 1908. Imagine opining to a scientist from the university up by the Haymarket that Melbourne might have a population of 3.8 mill by 2007. HIS response would probably be "What will we do with all the horse shit?".

Since I have almost exhausted everybody who will still be in a band with me (I have minimal talent and maximum ego -- double handicap but it doesn't seem to have stopped some contemporary artists) I'll have to look into this -- it could be my only solution.

Mick Hume has a terrific article in the Times regarding what he refers to as the Apocalypse Auction. Which is/was the biggest threat to London: terror, the blitz, street violence, obesity, the cold war, climate change. A very good read!

When I was still in short pants, ATV meant this.
Now it means this.
That's sorta cool!

Bought one of these late last week. It handles Printer, File, Backup "serving" very well over both wired and wireless networks. It's abilities as a hub/router/wireless thingy are superior to what I had previously.
Frankly, I'm over the moon so far except it "appears" that the draft technology known as 802.11n has much higher power requirements (whilst running on batteries) on my MacBook.
Maybe more to follow as I move forward.

Whilst I am not a gunzel my brother is a bit of a one.
A podcast I've been mostly enjoying lately is the ABC's Great Train Show.
I HAVE been enjoying it but some others may find it a bit, ummm, "intense".

Cascade Green beer is, by all accounts, 100% carbon offset. The offset is achieved by helping fund a methane flaring project in landfill. Flaring involves burning the collected methane to produce carbon dioxide. From what I can see, the CO2 yielded in this process is not used to carbonate the beer.
This is not really an April Fool's gag, but it should be!
