The image above is not much good. It is the packaging for a pair of scissors. Amongst the bullet-pointed features:
  • Human Engineering
  • Mechanics
  • Coziness
  • Legerity

Yes, legerity! Lookup the meaning.
$3.49 is not bad for a pair of scissors with Coziness AND Legerity, is it?
Also, see the company motto: Refinement Life • Keep Improvement

You know, I reckon you could base an Olympics opening ceremony on this packaging alone.

So, I managed to find a pair of scissors with great "features" at a great price. Now all I have to do is to keep them in the kitchen and not wandering aimlessly about the house.

Those who bothered to go and look at yesterday's magnificent piece by Prof Stott will probably be interested in today's followup, More On Cognitive Dissonance.

Prof Stott, as usual, is spot on in his latest post about climate titled Cognitive Dissonance.

I hope the federal minister for small business, Craig Emerson, is a major influence in the Rudd government because he sure makes a lot of sense in this article calling for a new enlightenment.

Most readers will have come across this article by now but I wanted it to be noted here. It is by Bishop Hill and it is called Caspar and the Jesus paper. It chronicles The Hockey Stick from a Steve McIntyre perspective. Well worth the read, Jack.

Saw this yesterday, bit long but I liked it. Now, maybe I don't get out enough, but the pitcher theatre had free wireless internet access which is sorta cool -- I only used it in the foyer pre'n'post but sorta cool nonetheless!

Here's an interesting article in the WSJ called Laughing Gas: How To Game the Carbon Markets.
I still think that carbon credits are one of the most obvious future domains of organised crime. Just One Guy's Opinion™.

For those who came to the party late and are trying to work out who the good guys are over in Georgia (the country, not the state) there is a terrific article up over at Strategy Page which gives some idea of why it's not so easy to determine. I am in the middle of my second go through and I will probably read it again before I feel I have some understanding.
It sure as heck looks like more of a sparking point for WWIII than we have seen for some time.

In a fascinating gallery over at the New York Times, a small sample of Olympic athletes' dimensions is published. I did a few calcs and found that (so far as we can take any notice of such a small sample) the range of BMIs for the group was from 17 (underweight) to 44 (morbidly obese). The average was 29 (overweight) and the median was 25 (overweight, just).
You have to wonder if this says more about the athletes or the usefulness of BMI as a measure.
Thanks to Sandy Szwarc for the pointer.

Those crazy, zany, arty guys, Byrne and Eno are at it again. Won't they ever give up? Sounds bloody good so far but.
