Category: Thanksgiving
I had no idea that FDR moved Thanksgiving from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday in November. The best thing is that the reason for doing so was because people in the US generally don't start their Christmas shopping until after Thanksgiving and retailers were concerned with shorter shopping period when November had five Thursdays. Who knew? I only found out because it was mentioned in passing on one of my regular podcast listens, Buzz Out Loud. So Thanksgiving became a very Moveable Feast.
